McFly revealed that their previous record company wanted them to be a chill-out act.
The pop foursome were having difficulties with their previous label, Universal, but suggestions that they should become a lounge-band proved to be the final straw for frontman Tom Fletcher.
He told the Daily Star: “They [Universal] wanted to take us in a direction that we really didn’t want to go in.
“They wanted us to be a bit more chilled-out and more subdued, but that is not who we are."
Tom also reckons that One For The Radio, their first single from new album Radio:Active, is nowhere near the best track on it.
He explained: “We have got better songs but we felt that this one had a bit of a statement.”
McFly’s single One For The Radio is out now. Their album, Radio:Active, will be given away free with this week’s Mail On Sunday (July 20).

McFly vs. Oasis
McFly's egos have gone in to overdrive - with the band claiming they are as good as Oasis.
Band founder Tom Fletcher has been comparing himself to Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher, and has been boasting about the title track from McFly's 2004 debut album.
Speaking to The Sun about the two times platinum selling record, Fletcher said: "Someone told me "If Oasis had written Room On The 3rd Floor it would've been heralded as one of the greatest songs of all time.""
