Rihanna Shares Florida Governor Endorsement, Encourages Repeal of Stand Your Ground
Rihannahas announced that she's throwing her support behind Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum for the governor of Florida, and shared her position on several other issues in the Sunshine State.
The pop singer made the announcement on Instagram Sunday (Nov. 4), just two days before the upcoming midterm elections on Tuesday.
RiRi wrote that Floridians "have the opportunity to make history this election" by electing Gillum as the first African-American governor of Florida.
"If you’re tired of feeling like you don’t matter in the political process, know the most important thing you can do in supporting a candidate is finding someone who will take on critical issues," she captioned a black-and-white image of a woman holding a sign that reads "Grab Em By the Midterms."
The singer's post also called for the repeal of the state's controversial "stand your ground" law, which allows Florida residents to defend themselves with deadly force if they are in fear of imminent danger or death, according to NBC News.
Rihanna concluded the post by encouraging Floridians to vote yes on Amendment 4, which restores voting rights to people who have been convicted of a felony and have completed the terms of their sentence. Source: BillBoard

Drake sure knows how to make a statement.
Ahead of 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 28), where Rihanna will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the Toronto MC bought a large billboard in Los Angeles to congratulate the diva.
"Congratulations to Rihanna from Drake and Everyone at OVO," the billboard read.
The gesture didn't go unnoticed by Rihanna. "When he extra," she captioned an Instagram photo of the large sign, along with a heart and trophy emojis.
Rumors have been swirling that the two music stars are secretly dating, which would explain why Drake would go to so much effort to congratulate the singer. Or perhaps it was meant to drive awareness of Drake's song "Too Good," which features Rihanna and has been climbing the Hot 100.
Drake, meanwhile, has multiple VMA nods for his “Hotline Bling” video. The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards airs live from New York's Madison Square Garden on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET

Rihanna axes tour launch concert
Rihanna has cancelled the opening concert of her upcoming tour later this week due to "poduction changes".
"The Umbrella" hitmaker was due to kick off her Last Girl On Earth Tour with Ke$ha and Travie McCoy at Auburn's White River Amphitheatre in Washington on Friday, but the show has been axed.
The trek will now commence on Sunday in Vancouver, Canada.
Tour promoters at Live Nation announced the news on Monday, blaming changes in production for the cancellation.
The scrapped show means Rihanna has a little extra time with boyfriend Matt Kemp, who has been handed a little downtime by his baseball team bosses at the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The couple spent almost a month apart recently as Rihanna toured the world. The loved-up pair was inseparable at the weekend when Rihanna joined Kemp in Los Angeles for the opening of the Dodgers' series with the New York Yankees. Source: Ananova

Rihanna embroiled in homeland controversy
Politicians in Barbados have come under fire for handing native Rihanna a free piece of real estate while poor residents struggle to cope nearby.
"The Umbrella" superstar was gifted a plot in the upmarket area of Apes Hill by Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley to thank her for boosting international interest in the Caribbean island nation.
However, Government Minister Gline Clarke has lambasted the decision - insisting a rich pop star has no right to garner free land while other Barbadians live in poverty.

Rihanna gives Israel helpers free show
Rihanna treated her kind-hearted fans in Israel to a free show recently as part of an initiative to encourage youngsters to do more for their community.
The Umbrella hitmaker headed to the country late last month as part of her Last Girl On Earth tour and staged a concert just for fans who had undertaken four hours of community service to earn their ticket.
The star visited a local scout club in Tel Aviv prior to the gig and helped members paint a mural on a wall before applauding them for their hard work.
She tells Reuters, "It was really unique the way they put this show together where the kids actually had to do something positive - it wasn't like they could buy a ticket - they had to work and put in four hours of community service." Source: Ananova

Rihanna opens up
Rihanna has spoken for the first time about being attacked by former lover Chris Brown.
The star was assaulted by the R'n'B singer back in February following the Grammy Awards.
In an interview with Good Morning America she spoke frankly about domestic abuse.
She said: "This happened to me. It can happen to anyone."
She also spoke candidly about coming to terms with the attack because of the feelings she had for the singer.
"He was definitely my first big love," she admitted.
Rihanna says she hopes being open and honest about the attack will encourage others to report incidents of abuse.
Speaking to Glamour magazine she added: "Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight.
"Teenage girls can't tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don't dare let your neighbour know that you fight.
"It's one of the things we (women) will hide, because it's embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery."
Brown pleaded guilty to assault in August and was sentenced to six months of community service, 12 months of domestic violence counselling and five years probation.
He was given a restraining order which requires him to stay at least 100 yards from the singer for five years.
Chris recently said he regretted his actions and still loved Rihanna. Source: Ananova

Chris Brown and Rihanna Sentencing Delayed
Chris Brown has turned up to court to be sentenced for beating his former girlfriend, pop star Rihanna - only to learn the session has been postponed.
The singer is expected to be handed five years' probation and six months of community work.
And Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg has said she wants him to remove graffiti or clear roadsides.
But Brown has requested to serve the sentence in Virginia.
The delay is to give authorities there more time to decide whether or not Brown can carry out community service in his home state.
The 20-year-old has admitted attacking Rihanna hours before the pair were due to play at the Grammy Awards.
He was arrested on February 8, hours after a party in Los Angeles.
An LA detective said Brown attacked Rihanna in a car when she checked his mobile phone and found a text from another woman.
He attempted to push Rihanna out of the vehicle before punching her repeatedly, Detective De Shon Andrews wrote.
He threatened to kill her when she pretended to phone her assistant to get police help and - according to a police report - bit her ear.
The detective said the assault left Rihanna with a mouthful of blood. Brown is also said to have tried to choke her.
Following the incident, pictures apparently showing the female singer's beaten and swollen face were leaked on to the internet.
Earlier this month, Brown apologised publicly for his behaviour.
In a video posting on his website, the singer said he was "truly, truly sorry", adding that what he did was unacceptable and he had apologised to his victim "countless" times.
The recommended sentence has been criticised by domestic abuse campaigners who claim it is too lenient.
A new sentencing date has been set for August 27. Source: Ananova

Rihanna put a dampener on her gig in Aberdeen by banning umbrellas from the venue.
Fans at the RnB lady's Press & Journal Arena show in the Scottish town were ordered to hand in their water-shielding accessories at security to collect afterwards.
Gig security guard Andy McDonald told the Daily Star: "We don't normally ask people to leave an umbrella outside, but we were taking precautions over a potential accident."
Andy explained: "We were told that Rihanna's song features dancing with umbrellas on stage. We didn't want the crowd following her actions and someone getting their eye poked out." Source: Ananova

Mary J was offered Umbrella
RnB megastar Mary J. Blige has insisted that Rihanna's No 1 hit, Umbrella, was originally intended for her.
Summer smash Umbrella was produced by Jazze Pha and Tricky Stewart, the same writing combination who worked on Blige's new record, Growing Pains - and Blige now says they offered her the track before Rihanna got hold of it.
She tells MTV: "They did the song for me. It was during the Grammy time and I heard it and I was like: 'Oh my goodness, that's a smash. I love this song'. And it was like: 'It's yours'.
"So in the midst of it being mine, they were probably telling Rihanna it was hers."
